Every four years, after the nations’ report card gets released, Virginia’s civil engineers get together and provide a comprehensive assessment of the Commonwealth’s infrastructure. 13 of Virginia’s major infrastructure categories were graded using a simple A to F school report card format, with the overall grade for the Commonwealth as a weighted average of the individual grades.
Virginia received a C grade with the individual categories ranging from B+ to D. The Report Card examines current infrastructure conditions and needs, assigning grades and making recommendations to raise them. To learn more about the Report Card, the grades, and the recommendations, click here.

On August 25th, ASCE Virginia’s Section formally released the grades in a ceremony on the Capitol Grounds. To see more photos of the event, visit the gallery by clicking here.
