Presentation Topic: Virginia State Rail Plan

RegistrationRegistration for this event is now closed.

This will be a hybrid-style meeting (virtual and in-person). This month the speaker will be in-person and all are invited to join in person for the opportunity to network and partake in the meeting as a group. Virtual attendees will still be able to interact with the speaker to ask questions.

Abstract: The 2022 Virginia State Rail Plan is the first Rail Plan in the country to be fully built using ESRI’s ArcGIS Online platform. This FRA required document was brought to life through innovative uses of StoryMaps, Web Applications, Dashboards, and other features to create a unique Rail Plan more accessible to the public and other stakeholders. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are essential to planning and engineering projects, but DRPT brought the platform to the forefront for their development and a digital delivery of the plan.

This session will cover:

  • Development of the Virginia State Rail Plan,
  • Innovative uses for GIS
  • The future of Transforming Rail in VA

Presenters: Taylor Holden and Bridget Wagner, GISP

Taylor Holden – Rail Planning Data Specialist (DRPT), is a 2015 graduate of the University of Richmond with a B.S. in Environmental Studies and Geography. Taylor has worked in GIS, Transportation, and Planning since 2015 at HDR, VDOT, and currently DRPT. He is a Rail Planning Data Specialist at DRPT, specializing in GIS and environmental planning. Taylor co-created and continues to teach the GIS Professional Certificate at the University of Richmond School of Professional and Continuing Studies

Bridget Wagner, GISP – East Region GIS Coordinator and Mid-Atlantic Section Lead (HDR), is the East Region GIS Coordinator and Mid-Atlantic GIS Section Lead for HDR.  She has 12 years’ experience in the development and management of GIS solutions for transportation projects. Over that time, she has lead GIS efforts (data collection, application development, asset management) for large DOT programs and private agencies. She has a detailed understanding of spatial database management concepts for roadway infrastructure.  These skills and experiences enable Bridget to analyze complex assets and field data and translate them into insightful, dynamic datasets. Bridget has integrated cloud and web-based mapping solutions, as well as standardized database schemas, for project management, asset management, field work coordination, and stakeholder engagement. Bridget is committed to improving project efficacy and streamlining delivery through digital spatial solutions. In her free time, she enjoys running throughout the City and exploring the Richmond food and drink scene with her husband, Jeff, and labradoodle, Macklin (she goes everywhere they go!).
