Vision Zero is a movement where no deaths or serious injuries are acceptable on our streets and roadways. Find out what strategic steps are necessary for the City of Richmond to implement their Vision Zero Action Plan and how your community can benefit from taking these same steps. Join Mr. Sawyer, a licensed professional engineer, to explore how transportation safety and public health intersect and perhaps how his perspective may change how you approach your own job.
Presenter: Michael Sawyer, P.E., Transportation Engineer and Vision Zero Coordinator, City of Richmond
Mr. Sawyer has over 25 years of experience in transportation engineering work in the private sector as well as the local, state, regional, tribal, and federal levels of government. He currently serves as the City Transportation Engineer for the City of Richmond, VA and was recently designated as the City’s Vision Zero Coordinator. Previously, he served as the State Highway Safety Engineer with the Virginia Department of Transportation. He emphasizes that transportation should serve all users within the City and in particular serve transportation disadvantaged communities who are disabled, elderly, or low income.
