The Alternative Project Delivery (APD) Division is responsible for leading VDOT’s statewide Design-Build and Consultant Procurement programs. Bryan will be discussing the Design-Build program where he is Senior Project Delivery Engineer. The primary objective of the Design-Build Program is to utilize the most appropriate procurement method and contract that satisfies the Department’s goals and objectives for each project. The Design-Build Program is responsible for all phases of procurement from advertisement through award of the design-build contract. Additionally, the D-B Program provides post-award support regarding programmatic and contractual issues to help ensure proper contract execution. Bryan will discuss history and highlights of the program, key elements of the Design-Build program and some current topics of interest to the industry.


Presenter: Bryan W. Stevenson, P.E., DBIA; Senior Project Delivery Engineer for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)

Bryan Stevenson is a Senior Project Delivery Engineer for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Alternative Project Delivery Division. He is responsible for the management of Design-Build project procurements. Since starting in 2013, Mr. Stevenson has managed the procurement of projects with a combined contract value of $250 million. Prior to joining VDOT, Mr. Stevenson spent 17 years in private sector consulting as an engineer and project manager. He has worked on a variety of projects throughout Virginia including roadway design and civil site design on industrial, institutional, subdivisions, multifamily, commercial and office projects. Mr. Stevenson has been involved in a number of professional and trade organizations, notably serving as ASCE Richmond Branch President, Chair of ASCE State Government Relations Committee and currently as the DBIA Central Virginia Chapter Program and events Committee Chair. He is also involved with Virginia Tech’s Land Development Design Initiative (LDDI) previously serving on the Advisory Board and mentoring Land Development and Municipal Engineering courses. Mr. Stevenson volunteers with Tuckahoe Little League, Boy Scouts and the PTA. Mr. Stevenson lives in Short Pump with his wife Heidi and his children Nate and Jackie. Mr. Stevenson holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech.
